2018 is off to a pleasantly busy start for my freelance writing. 35 freelance assignments, ranging from small filler paragraphs to feature articles, in just 53 days. My recent work has covered topics including a former study abroad trip to New Zealand, features on local Ocean City businesses, and a history-packed travel guide about Virginia Beach. For the local business features, I had the pleasure of interviewing some wonderful personalities spanning from renowned plastic surgeons to successful local child actresses.
This month, I competed in the Annual NYC Midnight Short Story Competition with over 4000 other contestants. My assignment was a <2500 word drama about a child suffering from dwarfism. An ‘escape’ had to be a prominent part of the plot. I struggled in the early creative stages, but I ultimately pulled together a story for which I was proud. I find out at the end of March if I was one of the 5 (out of 32 in my heat) selected to move forward to round 2. Fingers crossed!
In the next few months, I have an exciting upcoming feature planned which will give me the opportunity to interview a prominent politician. I’m keeping the person’s name a secret for now, but I will say you’d definitely recognize his name. Stay tuned for updates!
I’m also planning to submit a story about my beloved late dog, Maxie, to an upcoming anthology known as Gone Dogs. One of my dear friends is also planning to submit a story about her dog that sadly crossed the rainbow bridge a few years ago. We’ll find out later this year if our stories were selected.
